I just wanted to write a quick note to say how amazing the people of Iceland are. Amazing. The most friendly and hospitable people I've truly ever met. Here are my reasons why: 1) We stayed at Kef Guesthouse in Keflavik (near the airport). It looked sketch from the outside but was GORGEOUS on the inside. Our host made 3 trips in order to get us all to and from the airport. On the Tuesday night of our trip he also called in a pizza order to us for 8 Domino's pizzas, and then drove me to the Domino's to pick them up, since it was Iceland Domino's pizza coupon night - and we had to pick them up. The line was out the door! He really went above and beyond. 2) The next night we ordered burgers next door ... 27 burgers. I thought we were really in trouble when the man offered to bring them to us (how long will it take?!) but then he brought also extra burgers, fries, and fresh rhubarb from his own garden! And sugar from his own kitchen for us to dip it in! Not only that, but he also lent us his children's soccer balls and basketballs so our students could go play on the playground. They even met some really awesome Icelandic kiddos... and ladies! ;) 3) TBA

Today has been my favorite day so far, it started with Hunter, Travis, Bubs and I heading out at 6 am to go for a run. We ran back to where we had breakfast the previous day to see some sculptures up close. They were really cool and it was worth the run. When we got back we left immediately for the Golden circle Tour. Our first stop was at a national park where Iceland's first Parliament was formed. It was interesting to read about the history of the park. From there the next cool thing we saw was the Golden Falls. It was crazy, the Falls were absolutely massive. I had never seen anything like it. Then we went to see the first geyser discovered in Iceland. It was much larger than I had expected, and it was weird because there was a couple of them very close together. After that we stopped by the drivers church which was very pretty and then headed back to the hostile.
After dinner we went to the park to play soccer. At first we met some young boys who spoke very good English and were really good at soccer. We played for a while and then moved to basketball. Travis, Fulton, Ryan and me were playing bump and a couple local Icelandic girls challenged us to a 4x4. They blew us out of the water. But even though we lost it was super fun to play sports with some locals and try to understand each other. We played till around nine but had to go to bed because we had to be up at four in the morning the next day to catch our plane. |
